It seems that once again we have evidence that theobromine, one of the active ingredients in chocolate, can help with blood pressure. In an article published in Hypertension, a peer reviewed journal, indicates that the theobromine can help with blood pressure, but can't do what is needed in most cases.
The information can help us understand why eating chocolate alone will not be effective in blood pressure control. Clinically we have used the Pure Encapsulations product Vascular Relax BP for some time and found it to be an effect adjunct in blood pressure control. One of the active ingredients in VRBP is the cocoa extract talked about in the article. It also has other ingredients that help in the synergy of the product.
So, what do we take from this article? You can't just eat chocolate and lower your blood pressure.
